Penatbus Theatre, a company known for championing new British writing, in conjunction with Rural Media, have announced that applications are now open for National Young Writers 2025, a free online course designed to launch the next generation of young, rural talent.
Pentabus and Rural Media’s previous young writer projects have received over 500,000 views on TikTok, and former Pentabus young writers have gone on to be Olivier award nominated. Furthermore, last years National Young Writers pieces were released on Rural Media ArtFlicks Channel, which I featured on this site (you can read more about that here: https://oneshowatatime.co.uk/2024/09/21/pentabus-presents-artflicks-new-british-writing-free-to-watch-on-tiktok/), so not only is this an amazing opportunity to give new, young writing talent a boost, but one that could lead people further, onto who only knows what!
Successful young writers will work with Pentabus and Rural Media – something really quite exciting in itself; Pentabus being the nation’s rural theatre company and Rural Media being an award-winning production company, so fantastic companies to work with and learn from. Working with these companies, young writers will go on to create short plays for digital platforms – very much like those seen on the ArtFlicks channel in 2024. Moreover, the young writers will also take part in a series of workshops and masterclasses by industry professionals, and be supported to create their own original work, which will then go on to be performed by professional actors and released in October this year (2025).
A previous young writer speaking about their experience with this course said “This project has been an eye-opening challenge. I’ve developed skills in roles that I wouldn’t have done had this course been specifically about writing development.” Another successful young writer application commented “I think it has made me a more practical and resourceful writer where I’m thinking about actually making something rather than just writing something.”
Pentabus National Young Writers is aimed at those who may be curious about writing, as well as those who have experience already – so anyone between the ages of 18-30 can apply and see where their writing takes them! Applications for this course are open now, and close at 10am on Monday 24th March.
